Baby Loss Comfort
Gifts
Support your
friend and loved one through what must be one of life’s most bitter
experiences – losing a child. Families who have suffered the loss of
a baby through miscarriage (a baby born before 20 weeks), stillbirth
(the death of a baby after 20 weeks but before birth), or neonatal
death (a live born baby who dies within 28 days of birth) will need
your love and support.
No matter what
stage of the pregnancy that the baby dies it will be heartbreaking
for the family. Acknowledge their precious child’s existence with a
comfort gift.
Although nothing
can take away the pain, let your friend know they are not alone –
you care.
.:: A Time to
Grieve ::.
After losing a
baby you will need to allow yourself plenty of time to grieve. Use
this time to be gentle with yourself and look for ways to slow down
and be still.
Don’t spend the
time getting busy and trying to forget. You will regret this later
on. Use this time to remember your baby.
There are a lot
of ways to record your baby’s memories.
Scrap book a special album for baby.
Fill a keepsake album with baby’s photos and other memory items.
Keep a journal.
If you are physically able, create a memory garden. It doesn’t
have to be big.
It can be any
size you wish. A small pot with your favourite
flowers is fine, or a
large garden full of roses. It is for your
baby’s memory – it will be unique.
While you are
grieving, do try and go for a walk each day. There is something
about being outside among fresh air and nature that is soothing to
an aching heart.
Sit and listen to some quiet,
peaceful music.
Read of other families’
journeys through grief.
Have a supportive friend come
and spend a day with you.
If you have
trouble sleeping, an herbal bath before bed will leave you feeling
relaxed and ready for a good night’s rest.
Herbal Baths help
heal, comfort and relieve your body, mind and spirit.
Herbs have been
used for their healing, calming, and restorative properties, since
the beginning of time.
If you would
normally drink tea or coffee, try a non-stimulant like
herbal tea,
it is naturally free from caffeine and also healthful.
None of these
things will take away the pain you are feeling or ease the longing
you have to hold your baby. But they will help you surrender to the
grief that surrounds you; they will help you to remember… |
